AYA DE CAUVILLE

Aya de Cauville was born in 2009 out of a common passion between a mother and her daughter for artistry, creation, and manual work. The mother, Claire Goubert, along with her husband, owned a jewelry store that closed due to the political situation in Cote d'Ivoire in the early 2000s. Upon returning to Abidjan after her studies, their daughter, Alexia De Bruchard, joined her mother, and together they decided to collaborate to create clothing, accessories, and decorative items.
By chance, they had the raw material, the fabric that their mother had collected, and the talented seamstresses who had their workshop at home to help a family member.
Aya de Cauville is the encounter between the West and Africa, it is the cultural mixing of Alexia and Claire but also a constant mixing in their choices throughout the production process, the mixing of fabrics, colors, and styles. The name of the brand also reflects this, as Aya is Claire's Baoule name and De Cauville is the French grandfather's last name, Philippe De Cauville.
The brand has no preference in terms of fabrics but works a lot with the Baoule weaving community in central Cote d'Ivoire near Yamoussoukro, the capital. A second Aya de Cauville boutique has just opened in Abidjan as well as a collaborative boutique called The Gallery Coumba, which brings together 12 African women creators from Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Cameroon, Kenya, and Madagascar.
