Born to a middle class parent and raised in the south eastern part of Nigeria, I developed a keen interest in craft and fashion from a young age.

I studied English and received a bachelor’s degree from the University Of Nigeria Nsukka, thereafter I worked with an Information Technology company for 12 years. I handled a number of key projects for the company.

I never wanted my love for fashion to be ignored, while being employed I enrolled for a number of online sewing classes; this resulted in me making over 70% of outfits I wore to work. My DIYs generated interest from colleagues, family and business associates in that I began to receive orders from them.

Having gathered the necessary knowledge and managerial skills required over the years, I decided to quit my job in April 2018 to pursue a career in Fashion designing and bring to fruition my desire to advocate and sensitize consumers on the importance of fashion up-cycling and the negative impact of fast fashion on our environment.

In 2018, I founded Ama Okoji Couture, a sustainable fashion brand which uses quality fabrics, indigenous handmade fabrics, natural fibers and waste fabrics in the production of fashion items. My brand aims at providing quality, timeless, comfortable yet affordable Afro urban pieces to women who are fashion conscious.

I am inspired by artwork and my environment. Despite having to juggle the responsibility of being a wife and a mother of three, I am still able to successfully manage my fast growing fashion business.
