MOLIVIAN
Kenya African colours are often thought of as vibrant and cheerful but what about the darker tones that are currently all the rage on global runways? Exciting newbie to the Kenyan fashion scene, Molivian is passionate about a colour spectrum that’s more unexpected of a home grown African brand. Started by Marriane Olivia Njeri, an ex-estate agent with too much time on her hands during the covid pandemic, she started stitching. The resulting collection is made up of wearable simple, silhouettes, featuring abstract patterns of colour and texture that make them stand out. Not a fan of fast fashion, Njeri prefers each item to have its own personality. She cherishes up-cycling as every piece of clothing is often impossible to reproduce and becomes unique to the wearer. The aim is also to create a circular economy and manage textile waste. So her patterns can either be strips, dots or patches that adopt different colours or fabric schemes. These are all based on coordination and availability. The brand’s goal is to expand into other countries and own her own bricks-and-mortar store. Something that we see on the cards for this exciting new brand.
