AfroWema
Kenya Tatiana Teixeira, the visionary founder of AfroWema, combines a unique blend of science, marketing, and a deep passion for sustainability to empower challenging communities through fashion. With a background in biology and marketing, Tatiana’s journey began in 2018 when she volunteered in Kibera, Nairobi's largest informal settlement. Witnessing both the immense challenges and untapped creative potential of the community ignited her commitment to fostering positive change through innovative and meaningful ways.
In 2021, she made the life-changing decision to relocate to Kenya to immerse herself fully in the community, learning from local artisans and embracing their culture. By 2023, her vision culminated in the creation of AfroWema—a brand dedicated to blending African culture with eco-conscious fashion. AfroWema’s collections are a reflection of Tatiana’s passion for sustainability, cultural heritage, and artistic expression. The brand showcases upcycled denim, handwoven fabrics, and traditional African textiles such as Kitenge, creating unique, luxurious designs that tell stories of resilience, creativity, and identity.
Tatiana’s mission goes beyond creating sustainable fashion; she is deeply committed to uplifting the community. Through AfroWema, she supports young designers, artisans, and creatives, offering them opportunities to showcase their talent and gain meaningful exposure. She also collaborates with organizations and schools to promote sustainable fashion education, aiming to inspire future generations to embrace ethical practices.
AfroWema is more than a brand—it is a movement driven by Tatiana’s belief in the transformative power of multidisciplinary approaches to conservation, sustainability, and social impact. By combining her expertise, passion, and dedication, Tatiana continues to prove that fashion can be both luxurious and a force for good.
