DJAININ

Djainin (which is Ivorian slang for jeans) is new on the African scene but has arrived with a bang. The brand’s first collection is a synergistic exploration of street ware and a love for the Ivory Coast's fabled, post-independence golden age. The brand’s founding designer Jean-Yves Kouassi loves it so much in fact that he has put legendary Marie-Thérèse Houphouët-Boigny as the face of the entire collection. The country’s first, first lady (when president Félix Houphouët-Boigny came into power post the country’s 1960 independence from France) is an unsung African style icon whose graceful demeanour and incredibly chic wardrobe captured the heart of a nation. Her smiling portrait now adornes Djainin’s first collection which is a youthful collection of tailored separates. Denim jackets, slouchy jeans with skater pocket details and easy to wear shirts all come with an Andy Warhol-style print. By combining this nostalgia with fresh fabrications and styling, Djainin has created a unique take on street style that translates from Los Angeles to Osaka. Keep this brand on your radar, by the looks of it Djainin is going places…
