I observed the challenging living situations of weavers in my hometown, despite their invaluable expertise. I also realized that in Abidjan, the capital, traditional fabrics are primarily worn for ceremonies. Motivated by my passion for my culture and fashion, as well as my determination to enhance living standards in Ivory Coast and across Africa, I resolved to champion our traditional textiles. These fabrics, sourced from various countries including Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Mali, Ghana, and Kenya, possess numerous therapeutic and protective qualities for their wearers. Recognizing that one obstacle to their widespread use at home was the absence of everyday, interesting attire, I founded KIGNON. My aspiration is to offer stylish, yet accessible clothing options suitable for daily wear, enabling our artisans to enjoy better livelihoods while promoting our culture both domestically and internationally.
