ÓboyLagos is an afrocentric contemporary fashion brand, birthed out of a need to create unique, beautiful and timeless pieces while preserving cultural heritage. This is done through contemporary designs crafted in indigenous fabrics like handwoven Aso Oke, patterned Akwete (crafted by Nigerian weavers) and hand-dyed Adire (indigo cloth). Beadwork and embroidery details are also done by Nigerian talent, keeping the brand’s offering wholly local. It seems the international industry is sitting up and taking notice as the brand’s designs have been featured in the pages of American Vogue, GQ Middle East, Germany’s Der Spiegel and digital giant Okay Africa. Creative Director Nwaeze Opara Nwaeze James is greatly inspired by African heritage and culture, art and royalty and an elevated collection full of signifiers like satin, crowns, king text prints and fringing follows.
